SEE CORFU TOWN

Unfortunately, WWII and Nazi bombings did erase much of Corfu’s architectural treats. But there are a few special ones that did survive, and others have new copies. It is still a great town to “lose” yourself.

The fortress dominates what is the newer section of Corfu.
The imposing New Fortress

You can understand why Corfu was hard to capture looking at the walls.
A steeple in Old Town is visible over the walls.

When Corfu becomes part of Greece, the palace becomes a Royal palace for the King of Greece.
The British also donate the Palace of St. Michael and St. George.

A day strolling through the town of Corfu is rewarding just for architecture and history. The shopping in the bazaar and local cuisine does not take away from this.
