What Defines a Country?
There are those people who say they have been to Iceland, England, France, or elsewhere. They have been in those countries’ airport while waiting for a connecting flight.
That has as much merit as standing at the Super Bowl ticket booth outside saying you went to the game.
You cannot see a small city in a day, let alone a country.
I will make exceptions for:
The Vatican City has around 100 acres, and two-thirds of that is not open to the public.
Monaco is more extensive at around 500 acres, but much of it is residential.
San Marino is hiding away in Italy, Liechtenstein between Austria and Switzerland, and Andorra between France and Spain. You can probably see the highlights in a day. But it will take you the better part of a day to reach them.
Some islands are entire countries, and some a day is almost too much to see everything.
But in general, of the 194 countries in the world, a day isn’t enough.
Italy – building took longer than a Day.
That was Rome, and it took several hundred years. Imagine how long Italy took?
So why look at a country map? Because few of us know geography as we should. We know Hong Kong and Beijing are in China. Do you know they are 1200 miles apart? That a high-speed train still needs nine hours to make the journey. Even a jet takes three hours plus all the time at the airport.
What about Sydney, Australia to the Great Barrier Reef? That flight (to Cairns) is over three hours or 26 hours in a car.
On the flip side, do you know how close Munich, Germany is to Austria? In less than two hours’ drive or train ride, you can be in Salzburg having tea with jam and bread.
So take a look at the world a country at a time. You might learn a few things.
